Wasted $40 on those fancy seedling heat mats
Bought two of them off Amazon back in March. Thought my peppers needed that bottom heat to germinate. Left them on 24/7 for two weeks. Electric bill jumped $30. The peppers sprouted fine without them later when I just put the trays on top of my fridge. Total loss was $40 plus the shock of that bill. Anybody else fall for the gear trap before figuring out the simple way works?

Man, I totally fell for that same fancy gear trap with heating mats last year.

Went through that same thing myself, honestly... it just seems like you need all the expensive stuff to get started but really it's just the basics that matter. I spent way too much on a fancy thermostat setup that did the same thing as a simple plug-in timer. The whole marketing machine really gets you thinking you need all that high-end gear to be a "real" grower or whatever. Definitely a lesson learned the hard way, but at least we're not alone in falling for it.
