3 months in and my remote 'office' finally gave up on me

My laptop hinge cracked in a cafe in Lisbon last Tuesday, right in the middle of a client call, and I had to finish the meeting holding the screen at a 45 degree angle with one hand. I could either pay 220 euros for a repair there or fly back to Berlin and risk the whole machine dying on the flight. Has anyone else had gear fail in a city where you don't know a single repair shop, and did you trust the local fix or wait it out?

Gear always breaks the day you least expect it.
