A developer friend told me my coworking space choice was killing my productivity

He said the open layout with constant chatter was wrecking my focus so I switched to a library-style space with private booths and my output doubled in two weeks, has anyone else found that specific noise types matter more than just 'quiet'?

I switched to a library space six months ago and actually saw my output drop at first (missed the background energy, weirdly). Your friend might be right for coding, but for creative problem-solving I find that low-level chatter helps me stay engaged, while dead silence makes me hyperaware of every little noise. Maybe it depends on what kind of work you do, but "quiet" isn't a one-size-fits-all solution for everyone.

I mean, is this really something to overthink? You're not performing brain surgery, you're coding or writing emails or whatever. I've worked in a coffee shop with a full on espresso machine screaming and it was fine. The whole "quiet space vs. noise" debate is blown Way out of proportion. Just pick a spot where you don't fall asleep and move on with your life.
