Can we talk about how nomad banking changed after that mess in Chiang Mai?
Two years ago I was using my regular bank card everywhere and getting killed on fees. After my card got blocked in Thailand for 'suspicious activity' and I was stuck for a weekend, I switched to a Wise account. Now I keep a local currency balance there and use their card for daily stuff, transferring money over on Mondays. It cut my monthly banking costs from like $50 to under $10. Anyone else have a simpler system for managing money across three different countries?

My own Chiang Mai disaster was getting my only card eaten by an ATM on a Sunday. I used to be so stubborn about just using my home bank, but the fees were insane, like throwing $30 a month into a gutter. Now I run everything through Revolut for daily spending and keep a small cash buffer in local currency. It's not glamorous, but it means I don't have to panic-call my bank from a different time zone anymore.

That card-eating ATM panic is the worst.

Yeah I read this article about how ATMs in places like Thailand will sometimes just keep your card if the machine glitches. Wild that you gotta wait until Monday to sort it out. You ever look into something like Wise for the cash buffer part or do you just stick with Revolut for everything?
