Dropped $40 on a portable espresso maker and it's actually saving me money in cafes
I was spending like $5 a day on espresso while coworking in Medellin, so I grabbed a manual lever machine off Mercado Libre. It works great with just hot water and my pre-ground beans, and I've already made back what I spent after two weeks. Anyone else found a cheap gear upgrade that cut their daily costs while traveling?

...so are you using a thermos or just making it at the coworking space before you head out? cause I tried the same thing in Bali with a little moka pot but it ended up being more hassle than it was worth once the hot water situation got complicated. like do you have to boil the water separately or does your lever machine handle it straight from the tap?

Are you sure lever machines can run straight off tap water without causing scale buildup?

Oh yeah, I read somewhere that those manual lever machines actually handle tap water fine if you descale them every few weeks... especially in places like Medellin where the water's already pretty soft. I've been using mine with just straight tap water and it's been working great so far.
