My old external hard drive plan seemed fine until that.

Had the same thing happen, @ruby_sanchez45. I just switched to using cloud backup along with my hard drive (you know, as a backup for the backup). It gives me way less to worry about.

10TB external failed on me last year with no warning at all. Lost a few years of family photos that I thought were safe. Did you manage to recover anything off yours?
