Just read that Chiang Mai has over 50,000 digital nomads a year now
I found this stat in a travel blog post from last month, and it blew my mind because it felt way less crowded when I was there in 2019. How do places like that even handle that many remote workers without the cost of living going crazy? Has anyone been there recently and noticed a big change?

What about the local language barrier though? I bet most of those nomads don't speak Thai, so how does that change the vibe for people who actually live there full time?

My friend in Chiang Mai says it's like living in two different cities.

Oh man, @patb12 I know exactly what your friend means. I lived in a spot in Medellin for a few months that was split between the expat zone and the local neighborhoods. What worked for me was picking a few local spots away from the digital nomad hubs and going there regularly. I'd go to the same fruit stand and bakery every morning, and even with my broken Spanish the owners started remembering me. That small routine made the city feel like mine instead of just a shared workspace with palm trees.
