My friend said I should always book a month in advance, but that's not working for me
He insisted it was the only way to get good deals on apartments, but in Medellin last month, I found way cheaper places by booking just a few days before I arrived. Has anyone else had better luck with last-minute bookings in certain cities?

Check the fine print on those price match guarantees. Most of them have hidden exclusions like sale dates or specific room categories that make them almost impossible to actually use. Just compare three sites manually before you book and you'll save yourself the headache 9 times out of 10.
