My mentor said coworking spaces are a waste of money. But I blew $800 on coffee shops last year.
I spent my first 6 months as a digital nomad working from cafes in Chiang Mai. My mentor, an older guy who's been doing this since 2015, told me to just get a coworking membership. I pushed back because $100 a month felt expensive. But after 3 months of buying iced lattes and snacks every day I added up my receipts. I was spending nearly $200 a month just on drinks and food to justify sitting there. Coworking is actually cheaper plus you get better internet and more room. Has anyone else done the math on cafe vs coworking costs?

Wait, did you factor in that coworking spaces usually have free coffee and sometimes snacks? I get what your mentor is saying but honestly the vibe at cafes can be way better for creativity if you find the right ones.

Wait, you were spending $200 a month on iced lattes and snacks just to sit in a cafe? Honestly, I get the appeal of the coffee shop vibe but that's wild to me. I've seen people in those places order one drink and camp out for 6 hours, then act surprised when the wifi cuts out or the barista gives them the death stare. Tbh, I think coworking spaces are way cleaner too, less of that sticky table problem. Plus, no one judges you for taking a Zoom call without whispering.
