Stop bragging about coworking spaces, the wifi is usually garbage

I've been bouncing between Chiang Mai, Medellin, and Lisbon for 2 years now and everyone keeps hyping up these fancy coworking spots with the bamboo plants and cold brew on tap. Last month I paid 250 bucks for a month pass at a place in Lisbon that looked amazing in the photos, but the upload speed was 3 Mbps and the router kicked me off every 45 minutes. I ended up working from a random cafe near the waterfront where the barista let me camp for 6 hours with a 4 euro coffee, and the connection was twice as fast. People treat coworking like it's a status symbol but they never check the actual ping or run a speed test before signing up. Why are we paying premium rates for aesthetics when the whole point is to get work done? Has anyone else found that local libraries or hotel lobbies beat these Instagram-ready spots more often than not?
