TIL my visa run in Chiang Mai turned into a 3-day ordeal

I needed a new 60-day tourist visa and figured the border hop to Laos would be a quick overnight trip, but the consulate in Vientiane had a sudden system outage. It ended up taking three full days of waiting in lines and finding last-minute guesthouses before I got my passport back. Has anyone else had a simple admin task blow up like that recently?

Tell me about it. I got held up once because my passport photo made me look "too happy" for official use. They really do treat every single rule like it's life or death.
