Tried working from a hostel common room in Medellin for a week vs renting that $15/month coworking desk in Laureles

The common room had screaming kids and someone blasting reggaeton at 2pm while I was on a client call, so I finally gave in and paid for the desk and honestly my output doubled in three days, has anyone else found their savings backfired on productivity like that?

Oh absolutely, I did the same thing in Buenos Aires last year. Thought I was being smart by just using the hostel common room until I lost a whole afternoon trying to explain to a client why a bearded dragon was hissing in the background of my Zoom call. The little desk rental I caved for ended up being like $12 a week and I finished two weeks of work in three days. Sometimes paying a tiny bit just to have a chair that doesn't wobble and no one asking if you want to join their beer pong game is worth every peso.

That line about the wobbling chair and no beer pong invites is too real. I actually read something about how our brains treat "just finding a spot" as a separate task that drains focus, and it made me think about all the times I've done the same thing.
