Drywall sanding dust ruined my furnace filter in one afternoon
I always sanded drywall with just a mask and a drop cloth, but last weekend I taped plastic over my HVAC vent and it made a huge difference. My filter had a thick layer of fine dust after maybe 3 hours of sanding, so that stuff definitely gets everywhere. Has anyone else found another trick to keep it out of the ductwork?

Wait, you had a box fan in the window blowing outward while you sanded? That's wild. I gotta try that next time because that plastic sheeting trick was a pain to set up and it still let some dust through around the edges. Did you just tape cardboard around the fan to seal the gap in the window frame? Because I'm picturing a ton of dust just swirling around the room anyway before it gets pulled out.

Rigging up a box fan in the window blowing outward while you sand works like a charm. Creates negative pressure so the dust gets sucked outside instead of settling everywhere.
