Found my late grandpa's hand tools in the basement last weekend

I was clearing out my folks' place in Cleveland and dug up his old Craftsman socket set from the 70s. The ratchet still clicks smoother than the new one I bought last month. Has anyone else run into old tools that just work better than modern stuff?

Is it possible the old metal was just thicker and tougher than todays stuff?

Man that smooth ratchet click is something else. My buddy Mike found his old man's Snap-on impact gun from the 80s under a pile of crap in the garage. That thing still fires up and zips off lug nuts no problem, but the new battery powered one he bought last year just sits there half the time. I swear they don't make internals the same way anymore.
