Found out my 1950s house has asbestos siding from a free city inspection report
I got a free home safety check from the city last month and the report said my siding is asbestos cement, which I had no idea about. Now I'm stuck between leaving it alone since it's safe if intact or paying thousands to have it removed before I repaint. Has anyone else dealt with this and what did you decide to do?

Well, there goes your weekend project of sanding it down for that rustic look...

My neighbor left theirs alone after reading it's low risk.

Honestly, that "low risk" thing gets taken way out of context. It means the chance of a major problem is low, not zero. Like, low risk of a house fire from old wiring doesn't mean you shouldn't fix it. You can still get water damage or pests from leaving it totally alone. It's more about managing a small issue before it turns into a big, expensive one.
