Hated the idea of a smart thermostat for years, now it won me over in a week

I always thought smart thermostats were a gimmick for people who had too much money. My buddy installed a Nest in his 1200 square foot house near Dayton and his electric bill dropped $35 a month. After my old one died last December, I caved and got the same model. Now I want to know if anyone else held out on something simple like this and later regretted not getting it sooner.

% dropped $35 a month" is the part that got me. I held out for years too, thought it was all hype. But when I finally got one after my wife kept complaining about the temperature swings, that savings was real. Not quite $35 for me, but close enough to $25 that it paid for itself in like 4 months. The thing that really bugs me now is all the time I wasted manually adjusting the damn thing. Did you find yourself getting annoyed at how much you used to mess with your old thermostat after you switched? Because I swear I spent more time fiddling with that dial than I ever thought I did.

Got a buddy who was the exact same way, swore up and down smart thermostats were a scam. His wife finally bought one and installed it while he was at work. He came home and was so mad he refused to use it for like two weeks. Then one day his AC went out and the thing sent a notification straight to his phone with the error code. He called a repair guy who literally fixed it in 10 minutes because he knew exactly what part to bring. Now he tells everyone it's the best thing he ever didn't buy.
