Kind of regret doubting that $30 paint sprayer from Harbor Freight
After hand-rolling three coats on my garage door last summer in Austin heat, I borrowed my neighbor's cheap HVLP sprayer for the fence last weekend and it cut a 6 hour job down to 90 minutes, but now I'm wondering if I should just buy one or pay him to do the whole backyard this fall, anyone else had luck with those budget units on rough wood?

Did you thin the paint or stain at all before running it through? I picked up one of those same sprayers for our cedar fence last spring and honestly it worked way better than I expected for the price. I mean, I had to clean the tip a few times and the splatter was a little uneven on the really rough boards, but the time savings was unreal. For that kind of money, I'd say just buy it yourself, then you can also use it for the backyard whenever you want instead of waiting around for your neighbor. That said, I did need to go back over a couple spots with a brush where the wood was super dry and just sucked up the stain.
