That $600 french drain quote made me do it myself
Last month I got quoted $600 for a french drain in my backyard in Flint. Told the guy I'd think about it. Then watched 3 YouTube videos and spent $85 on gravel and pipe from Lowes. Rented a trencher for $60 on a Saturday. It took 8 hours and my back still hurts, but it worked through that big storm last week. Anyone else get fleeced on a quote and just decide to wing it?

Honestly I used to think paying pros was always the smart move. Figured I'd mess it up and make things worse. But that quote for what's basically a ditch with rocks in it felt like robbery. Now I'm checking every quote twice and I've fixed two other things around the house since. The gravel settled fine and no water in the basement after the storm, so my back pain was worth the $455 I saved.
