Water hammer nearly blew my pipes apart last night

I was running the washing machine around 11 PM and heard this loud BANG sound from the basement. Turned out the air chambers in my copper pipes got waterlogged after 15 years. I drained the whole system and refilled it, and the banging stopped thank god. Has anyone else dealt with water hammer in a house from the 90s?

Thing is those anti-hammer valves fail pretty often too lol. Draining the system is more work but it fixes the real problem instead of slapping a bandaid on it. If your pipes are old like mine that's the way to go.

Disagree a little actually. Draining the whole system is the old school fix but modern washing machines have those anti-hammer valves built in now. Might be worth checking if yours just needs a $10 part instead of all that work.
