I was talking to a guy named Carl who ran a factory floor for 30 years. He said he stopped having daily stand-ups with his leads about five years ago, switching to just two a week. He told me, 'If they need me, they know where I am. The other days, I'm out there.' It hit different because I realized I was scheduling check-ins out of habit, not need. How often do you all actually meet with your direct reports?

My old boss had us in meetings every single morning. Felt like a waste of time. Reading this makes me see he was just stuck in a routine.

Ask him if he ever noticed which meetings actually needed to happen and which ones were just filling time? Or did he just go along with it forever because that's how it's always been done?
