A chat with a retiring plant manager shifted my view on team meetings
I was talking to a guy named Carl who ran a factory floor for 30 years. He said he stopped having daily stand-ups with his leads about five years ago, switching to just two a week. He told me, 'If they need me, they know where I am. The other days, I'm out there.' It hit different because I realized I was scheduling check-ins out of habit, not need. How often do you all actually meet with your direct reports?

My old boss had us in meetings every single morning. Felt like a waste of time. Reading this makes me see he was just stuck in a routine.

Scheduling check-ins out of habit, not need" is so real. I heard a podcast say most meetings are just a check-the-box thing.
