Had a chat with our COO last Thursday that totally flipped my thinking on remote team check-ins.

She told me her team switched from daily standups to just two 15-minute calls a week and their output actually went up 20%, so now I'm wondering if all that face time I was pushing for was just making people tired instead of productive.

I gotta push back on this one. You said your COO's team "went up 20%," but did anyone check if that output was actually good work or just more tickets closed faster? I've seen teams slash face time and end up with people working in silos, missing big picture stuff, and then spending way more time fixing mistakes later. Those two 15 minute calls a week might work for a mature team that already has strong relationships, but for most of us, cutting standups completely is just asking for miscommunication and duplicated effort.

Two 15 minute calls a week replaced standups entirely?
