A guy at the farmers market changed how I price my pies

He bought a slice of my peach pie at the Santa Monica market. Said it was the best he ever had, but asked why I charged so little. Told me, 'Your work is worth more than that.' I raised my prices by two dollars the next week. Has anyone else had a customer push them to charge more?

That line about "your work is worth more than that" hits home. My buddy who does custom woodworking had a client basically beg him to raise his rates after a project. The guy said he was charging half what he should and it was making people question the quality, which is wild to think about. He bumped his prices up and actually got more business, go figure. Sometimes you're just too close to your own stuff to see its real value.

Ever see that with artists? A friend paints murals and had a gallery owner tell her low prices made her work look like cheap decor. She doubled her rate for new pieces and sold out her next show.
