I got called out for my weak coffee program at the cafe

Honestly, a regular came in last month and straight up told me our drip coffee tasted like 'burnt water'. Tbh, that hurt but they were right. I was buying cheap beans from a big supplier and grinding them way too fine, just trying to save cash. After that talk, I switched to a local roaster in Pasadena, got a proper grinder, and trained my two baristas on the right ratios. Ngl, it cost about $200 more a month but our sales went up 15% because people actually finish their cups now. Has anyone else had a customer give them harsh but good advice that changed their menu?

Totally get that. Had a customer tell me our old house blend tasted like stale dirt, which was rough but fair. Switched roasters and spent a week just dialing in the grind, felt like a whole new job. Funny how the truth hurts but then actually fixes things, right?

Wasn't the grind always the real job?
