Rant: I thought those fancy salt blocks for cooking were just for show
My buddy got me one for my birthday and I left it in the box for like six months. Finally tried it last week, searing some scallops on it after heating it up slow on the grill. The flavor it gave them was wild, like a real mineral taste you can't get from just sprinkling salt. Totally changed my mind on using it for finishing steaks too. Anyone else actually use these things for more than a photo op?

My neighbor in Vermont used to grill plums with a bit of brown sugar. They'd get all soft and caramelized.
