Rant: A client in Omaha told me 'your time is only worth what someone will pay for it'
I was giving a quote for a big backyard fence job, and the guy flat out said my hourly rate was too high because I was just a guy with a truck. He said, 'Your time is only worth what someone will pay for it, and I won't pay that.' It stuck with me because it was the push I needed to stop taking lowball jobs. Has anyone else had a client say something that made you raise your prices for good?

That Omaha guy gave you the best free business advice you'll ever get. bettymurphy is right, he did you a favor by showing his true colors early. I had a similar moment last year that made me double my minimum job price. Some people just want cheap work, and they're never the clients you want anyway. His comment says way more about his own cheapness than it does about your worth. Letting that stuff push you to value your own time is how you build a real business.
