Why my electrolysis setup left my saw blade with a weird film
I mean, I watched a bunch of tutorials and got all the stuff to try electrolysis on an old hand saw. Followed the steps exactly, or so I thought, and let it run for a few hours. But now there's this thin, greasy film all over the metal that won't come off. Idk if my water was too hard or I mixed the solution wrong. Maybe it's just me, but I'm kinda frustrated because it seemed like a sure thing.

Ever think that film might actually be leftover washing soda solution? If it feels greasy, it could just be a layer of the electrolyte that dried on there without a good enough scrub after. I always rinse mine under hot water while scrubbing with a stiff brush right after I pull it out, before it dries at all. A lot of tutorials skip over how important that step is, in my experience.

Had the same issue with a pan last month. A quick polish with some fine steel wool took that greasy film right off.

Disagree here, that slick film is usually the original finish breaking down into soap. I've had pieces where no amount of hot water scrubbing gets it off until you hit it with a buffing cloth.
