Why my electrolysis setup left my saw blade with a weird film

I mean, I watched a bunch of tutorials and got all the stuff to try electrolysis on an old hand saw. Followed the steps exactly, or so I thought, and let it run for a few hours. But now there's this thin, greasy film all over the metal that won't come off. Idk if my water was too hard or I mixed the solution wrong. Maybe it's just me, but I'm kinda frustrated because it seemed like a sure thing.

My warped jack plane taught me to flatten soles

I always skipped flattening plane soles, thinking it was extra. But this jack plane from a flea market changed that. It had a slight warp, so the cuts were uneven. I put sandpaper on a flat piece of glass and rubbed the sole until it was even. Watching the high spots wear down was neat. Once flat, the plane cut smoothly and made thin shavings. Now, I never skip this step. It turns a rough tool into a trusty one.

TIL wearing gloves while derusting wrenches prevents nasty chemical burns

I mean, I got a real bad burn on my hand from some evapo-rust last month, and it sucked. Idk, maybe it's just me, but now I never touch that stuff without nitrile gloves, even for quick jobs. It seems obvious, but I see so many guys skipping it and risking their skin for no reason.

My brother-in-law thought I was wasting time on a busted saw.

He watched me file the teeth for an hour and finally admitted it looked brand new. Do you have folks who don't get why we do this?
